The horse has a basic need for self preservation. TD

My goal with the horse is for us to someday be in perfect harmony. RH

Try to “feel” what the horse is feeling and operate from where the horse is. TD

The horse may not be doing the “right” thing for what the rider is asking of him; but as far as the horse is concerned, in his mind, the horse is doing the right thing, from where he is. TD

Feel, Timing, and Balance …. There is so much that goes on within that. TD

Feel the whole horse…know where the feet are. TD

When you ask your horse to do something it should be his idea. This is the goal. In the end, when you ask your horse to do something, he wants to do it, he likes to do it, he understands how to do it, and he does it. RH

You make the wrong things difficult and the right things easy as you adjust to fit the situation. RH

You have to get discipline within yourself so that you can have it with your horse. RH

You must learn to realize the slightest change, the smallest try that a horse makes. RH

Gain the horse’s attention before trying to direct the horse. RH

Don’t be afraid to overemphasize or exaggerate a movement when you are trying to let your idea become the horse’s idea. RH

You do not pull on him; he pulls on you – there’s a big difference. RH

The horseman needs to be awake, and alive, and alert at all times. RH

Don’t try to make it happen – let it happen. RH

Get in the habit of thinking. RH

By being consistent, being patient, being aware, there will be fewer problems. RH

What ever way the horse’s attention is directed, if you want to change it use the opposite leg and hand. RH

Where you release is what you teach. VH

The faster a horse goes the tighter he gets. RH

(to have the horse) Turn loose means when you reach for him he softens. RH

A horse does not care how much you know till it knows how much you care. PP
